Next Call of Duty Due in 2011, Space Warfare Incoming?
The Call of Duty rumor mill just keeps spinning. Even though Black Ops is a mere 2 days old, Activision are already talking up the next game in the franchise.
The next, 8th main installment of the series is currently in development by Sledgehammer and rumored to be a sci-fi ‘space warfare’ based FPS. The next Call of Duty game is scheduled for a 2011 release and considering Sledgehammer are behind the Dead Space series you can be sure that they have the relevance experience with games in a sci-fi setting.
“We have more development resources dedicated to Call of Duty than we’ve ever had before,” said Activision COO Thomas Tippl in their latest earnings call. “We think there’s a tremendous amount of appetite for Call of Duty content as well as services… So we are very bullish on the franchise.”
The next Call of Duty “will be first-person shooter, just to make sure there’s no misunderstanding there,” he said, squashing rumors of a CoD RTS.
Industry sources are adamant it’s set in the future and features ‘space marines’, which would tie in with the fact the Activision registered a number of space related Call of Duty domain names earlier this year, including “Advanced Warfare,” “Future Warfare,” “Secret Warfare” and, most interesting, “Space Warfare.”

Uh… if by services they mean pay to play then no, no I do not have an appetite for CoD “services”. There are plenty of other options to move to if CoD goes to a pay model.
